Real Sociedad – FC Barcelona Femeni: A win with belief (0-1)

A goal from Bussaglia with 20 minutes left allowed Barça to take three points from Zubieta in a very difficult match, and to keep top spot in the League

Barça Femeni stayed on top of the league after their third successive win this season, a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad. Fran Sánchez’s side dominated the match for almost the entire 90 minutes but couldn’t score until deep into the second half, Bussaglia grabbing the winner in the 70th minute.

Aware that the visit to Zubieta wouldn’t be easy, Barça had to contend with a very defensive approach from the hosts, who left hardly any space for the Blaugrana to work in. Fabiana officially debuted alongside the six players signed in the summer who were all starting for the first time under Sanchez.

Toni Duggan had the first opportunity to open the scoring and it served as an early warning before Lieke Martens twice went close. The second half began in the same way that the first had finished; with Martens trying to unlock a resolute defence and find the first goal.

Bussaglia breaks the Basque resistance

The game became a siege on Sociedad’s goal and Barça’s pressure eventually paid off.  Quiñones, who had saved everything to that point, could do nothing about Bussaglia’s powerful finish.

Though the Basques tried to react to going a goal behind, the result was never in doubt once the visitors had made the breakthrough. The Blaugrana never stopped believing and got their reward in the end.
