After Wednesday’s CL clash with AC Milan, FC Barcelona have reached the magical number of 500 appearances in all European competitions.  The Club’s European debut came 64 years ago in the semi-final of the Latin Cup – featuring clubs from Spain, Portugal, Italy and France - against Stade de Reims on 26th June 1949.  Barça beat the French side 5-0 and Josep Seguer had the honour of scoring FC Barcelona’s first ever European goal.

17 European titles

These 500 games have yielded a rich harvest of 17 titles, including 4 Champions Leagues.  The first of these 17 titles was the Latin Cup in 1949, when FC Barcelona followed up the defeat of Stade Reims with a 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon in the final.

The 17 titles:

· 4 Champions Leagues: 1991-92, 2005-06, 2008-09 and 2011-12

· 4 European Super Cups: 1992-93, 1997-98, 2009-10 and 2011-12

· 4 European Cup Winners’ Cups: 1978-79, 1981-82, 1988-89 and 1996-97

· 3 Fairs Cups: 1957-58, 1959-60 and 1965-66

· 2 Latin Cups: 1948-49 and 1951-52

A positive balance

Of these 500 matches, Barça have won 277 (55.4%), drawn 116 (23.2%) and lost 107 (21.4%).  The stats are even better in the Champions League alone where the Club has won 142 of the games played (57.03%).

This dominance is also reflected in goals scored (979), an average of 1.96 goals per match, and goals conceded (1.02).
