Xavi views the match against Inter as 'very important, although not definitive'

The Barça coach speaks about the importance of the game against Inter Milan, touches on the team's form and outlines what is needed to win the three points

FC Barcelona are already in Milan and preparing for the third game of the Champions League group phase tomorrow against Inter Milan, a match that could prove pivotal for the final group positions. Both Xavi Hernández and Marcos Alonso in the press conference, and the rest of the squad, are clearly aware of that fact.

The game against Inter is very significant for us. It will be very important, although not definitive. Both sides need the three points after losing against Bayern”, commented Xavi, going on to add, “we will need to show more bravery, character and take risks, because it is a very important game, like next week's game in the Spotify Camp Nou. This is the Champions League and we know we don't have much margin for manoeuvre”.

When asked about the team's form and whether it is ready to win big in Europe, the Catalan coach stated that it's time to progress, “We showed we could compete again in the game in Munich. We just weren't effective. We are doing things right, we are LaLiga leaders, but tomorrow's game is another story. So, we want to prove to ourselves that this is the time to perform in this competition”.

All the same, the coach is aware that it won't be easy at all, “Inter are a tough opponent, defensively strong, even though they aren't in the best of form at present. This means they will start very motivated. However, we will try to gain control and create play. I don't want to change the style that has improved us, but I do want to adapt to the opponent to obtain more control. And we do that to show more character. That's our DNA. We want to control the game and have the ball”.
