Barça futsal and Javi Rodríguez reached an agreement for the Santa Coloma native to join the team in the summer of 2025, after the Catalan coach concluded his time with Futsal Veszprém, with whom he won the Hungarian league.
So, the return of one of the section’s historic figures was sealed. As a player who wore the blaugrana shirt from 2006 to 2012 and played a key role in the team’s professionalisation and the beginning of its most successful era.
After several intense years on both domestic and international benches, Javi Rodríguez now returns to the Palau. Following his time with Gyor Futsal, where he won a league title and led the team to the Champions League Final Four, he continued his journey with Italy’s Futsal Marigliano and Ukraine’s MFC Kherson, where he also won a league title. In 2019, Rodríguez returned to Spain to coach Industrias Santa Coloma (2019–2022) and ElPozo Murcia (2022–2024).
Before arriving at Barça from Veszprém, he also coached Kuwait Club Futsal, adding a new cup and league title to his honours list in just two months.
Beyond his coaching career, Javi Rodríguez is a historic figure in Barça futsal. Named the world’s best player in 2006, his time as a Barça player was filled with success. He was part of the squad that won the club’s first two league titles (2010/11 and 2011/12), as well as the first two Spanish Cups and Copa del Rey titles in those same seasons. But the most iconic title is undoubtedly the club’s first UEFA Futsal Champions League, won in Lleida in 2012, which was also Rodríguez’s fourth on a personal level. He also lifted three Copa Catalunya titles (2008/09, 2009/10, and 2010/11).
In addition to these achievements with Barça, Rodríguez’s playing career and honours list are truly remarkable. Alongside his three Champions League titles with Playas Castellón (2001, 2002, and 2003), he also won two league titles (2000 and 2001) and a Super Cup (2004). With the Spanish national team, he claimed two World Cups (2000 and 2004) and four European Championships (2001, 2005, 2007, 2010).
